We ate very well in our travels, both in Amsterdam and in Hamburg. I wish I had thought to take more photos, or at least take photos before I had dived in and ruin the presentation.

.
A place we didn't eat at, but I was fascinated by "fillet of deer."

At the Albert Cuyp Street Market, there was a lot of food for sale: fresh fish & meat, fruits & vegetables, cheeses of all kinds, and chocolate. Gary loves white chocolate (me, not so much) so he bought a big honkin' slab with macadamias.

(Just to the left of this photo were chocolate penises, breasts, and probably other body parts.)

.
This is one thing I wish I had photographed before I mushed it up. Gary had a pineapple & cheese pancake; I had cherries & whipped cream. Pancakes are available with every kind of topping you can imagine and a few you can't. They're fantastic.

.
It was a surprise to me to see tomato soup absolutely everywhere. This was a bowl of homemade that I had in a tiny corner cafe. Tomatoes are apparently a huge crop in the Netherlands, and are really good even in springtime.

.
Puccini's, along Prinsengracht. Gary again gave in and bought some white chocolate.

We ate a lot of pasta & pizza, but we also had Turkish food, Greek food, cheese, bread, Indonesian rice table, and a lot of pancakes.

Oh yum! I am all about the food when I go places. I'm willing to try just about any of the local foods, something my family isn't so willing to do. All of this looks divine!

I think I may have grossed Gary out by eating the raw herring.

Ah - I knew there'd be a food post eventually. And what a ripper! Lovely choices! The chocs have won me but the pancake came close.

Food is VERY big with me. Gary is content to buy bread & cheese at the store and nosh on that, but I like to sit down and order different things.

I understand completely.
Not to sell bread and cheese short though - a classic of it's own! And with many wonderful variables.

I hear ya. And I'm right there with you even though, by some fluke, I lost 10 lbs while visiting my parents and eating as I did.

...resisting the urge to make a joke about the penis chocolate...

Oh, the hell with it...was it called cockolate?

Love the pictures of the pancakes. Pineapple and cheese? I'd be all over that. I do love me some pancakes.

SNORK

I do remember the penises were available in milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white...

Just as nature intended. Cream filling would probably be taking it a step too far.

Oh YUM!!

One of my favorite Netherlands days was when we went to the open-air market. All the vendors were calling out their wares to the shoppers, and there was tons of good-natured banter between them. "You don't want to buy HIS fish," one would holler as you went to a rival stand, "he caught THAT *yesterday*! I'm a much better fisherman, I caught MINE today!" and the rival would holler, "Yeah you caught YOURS from MY table!" and so on. They were all part of the market experience and I loved every second!

Gosh these posts are making me want to go back! I love that you had such a good time, and these pictures have been so much fun to see! And YUMMM I am coveting the pancakes and those chunks of bread with the soup, mmmmmmmmm!
